Calcium is an essential mineral and is needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth. Calcium also contributes to a normal muscle function and normal blood clotting.
Since the bone is constantly rebuilt, but calcium can not be formed by the body itself, it must be sufficiently and regularly absorbed through the diet.
Calcium is particularly required: during the growth age, during pregnancy and lactation, for women in and after menopause, for people above the age of 45.
Although the body can produce vitamin D through the regular exposure of sunlight to the skin itself, this in-house production is often insufficient in our latitudes.
